Release - March 17th, 2020
First and foremost, we hope everyone is safe and healthy. In these unprecedented times, we draw comfort in the fact that the great community of St. Louis is working together to get past the virus with hopes to return to normal life. A special thank you to all the parents that work in the health care systems, working hard to keep people healthy. While we are still a couple weeks away from the beginning of the spring season we want to update you on the current plan for spring Gateway Field Hockey. While this situation seems to be ever changing, we have every intention of playing field hockey in some capacity this spring, even if it means pushing back some into the summer. We will make modifications and changes to the schedule as needed, however our current modification are detailed below...
Spring Practices - Practices were originally scheduled to start April 1st and 2nd. With most schools being closed until April 3rd, we are going to go ahead and push practices (Club and Academy) back one week, so they will now begin on April 8th and 9th. Along with that, we will add one week to the end of the season; so practices that were scheduled to end on May 20th and 21st will now end on May 27th and 28th.
Spring League - League games were schedules to start on Sunday, April 5th. Again, with most schools being closed until April 3rd, we are going to push the start date of league back one week and it will now begin on Saturday, April 11th.
Note: All updates have been made on each individual programs page
Please know that while it is our intention to begin practices and league games as soon as possible, we want to keep everyone safe and if schools don't begin at the time they are saying, then we may have to push back the start of practices and games. Luckily our summer season does not typically include organized practices and league games, so if we need to push the season back some into the summer, we have that flexibility. Furthermore, we may be able to modify practices with smaller groups and keep athletes separated to work on individual skills so athletes are not touching. We will avoid high fives, post game hand shakes, and would ask that parents practice safe measures while watching practices and games.
We thank you for your support and patience as we navigate the spring season. This is a very trying time for the entire world and our staff and coaches appreciate your support during this tough time. Please stay tuned and we look forward to seeing you all soon!
